Who doesn’t want to enjoy a drink with their faithful dog at their side? After a long walk, a long day shopping, or a day enjoying some entertainment with your pup, you don’t necessarily have to stop them off at your home or hotel before you get a drink. There are plenty of dog-friendly bars and breweries in Sonoma County that you can enjoy. Here are our favorite nine.

Third Street Aleworks

1. For Hungry Pups: Third Street Aleworks

You want to grab a drink and bite, but you know your pup has been away from his or her food bowl for a little too long. What do you do? Stop by the Third Street Aleworks’ patio with your pup. They will provide you with a dedicated doggy menu and serve your pup from it just like a human. With this extra step in dog-friendliness, Third Street Aleworks has won our hearts and our dogs’ hearts too.

It’s rare to find any place that is known both for quality and variety, but the Hopmonk Tavern in Sonoma manages it. Choose from a huge variety of drinks and find new favorites. Plus, the ample, enclosed patio makes for a better experience for your dog. You don’t need to worry about other dogs walking by and catching his or her interest. The Hopmonk Tavern is proud of how dog-friendly they are, just take a look at the cute snaps of pups on their Insta.

Brewsters Beer Garden

3. For the Classic Pub Experience: Brewsters Beer Garden

You can find all of your favorite pub foods done right at Brewsters Beer Garden. Combine that sumptuous selection with one of their many drinks, including some pretty stellar cocktails, and you’ll have a great night. So will your dog. This place is so dedicated to being dog friendly that they’ve had complaints from those who aren’t so enthusiastic about having a pup around while they are eating. To each their own! Dog lovers will appreciate that their furry friend is welcome here and will be served a water bowl.

Fogbelt Brewing Company

4. Best for the Foodie: Fogbelt Brewing Company

  • Address: 1305 A Cleveland Ave Santa Rosa, CA 95401
  • Contact: (707) 978-3400
  • Website: fogbeltbrewing.com

A brewing company has a lot of spent grain. What do they do with it? At Fogbelt Brewing Company, they make dog treats to hand out to the furry friends who frequent their patio. While the selection of 12 tap beers is a little small for some, you will be surprised at how well they pair with the savory food. Staff can help you make great pairings, or you can take our suggestion and pair their Stardusk Juicy IPA with almost anything on the menu (we love it that much.)

Bird & The Bottle

5. For the Cocktail Fanatic: Bird & The Bottle

Are you and your pup looking for something a little special? Bird & The Bottle offers you some creative, well-executed cocktails and your pup a friendly place to relax. The patio is protected with green walls, blocking the view so more anxious dogs can relax while still feeling outdoorsy for you.

This lovely joint offers Asian-inspired food and one of our favorite cocktails to order and drink: “What Pho?” If you love cocktails, you’ll find worthy favorites and Insta-worthy options here.

Bear Republic Brewing Company

6. For a Tranquil View: Bear Republic Brewing Company

Good news! While the Bear Republic Brewing Company briefly stopped serving dogs during Covid-19, they are back serving our four-legged friends once again. That’s excellent for any dog-human pairs who want to enjoy a natural, tranquil scene while they relax. Bear Republic Brewing Company has a great view, excellent drinks, and a very dog-friendly atmosphere. While you’re here, we suggest you try one of our favorites, Sonoma Tart®, perfectly refreshing with a little sour kick.

7. For the Rural Transplant: Barndiva

  • Address: 231 Center St, Healdsburg, CA 95448
  • Contact: (707) 431-0100

Do you and your dog miss lush green gardens, the rustic barn atmosphere, and farm-fresh options? Try this farm-to-fork restaurant and its delicious drinks. The menu changes monthly, based on in-season produce, but the wine menu is more stable with a healthy selection of local and international treats. You must make reservations to eat here, but when you arrive in the enclosed back garden, with its entirely ivy-covered walls, rock gardens, and spacious seating, you’ll find it is worth it.

Healdsburg Bar & Grill

8. For When You’re Feeling Fries: Healdsburg Bar & Grill

Dogs and humans both love potatoes. For our part, we love to get the ample, crispy fries at Healdsburg Bar & Grill and pair it with one of the delicious beers on tap. Dogs might prefer to wait under the table for the inevitable moment when we drop a few fries. This great bar and grill is a classic spot, with a much better than average patio, large, enclosed and completely dog-friendly. Beyond the fries, they are also known for their burgers.

Woodfour Brewing Company

9. For the Beer Connoisseur: Woodfour Brewing Company

When you are looking for an excellent, intriguing beer experience and you have your dog in tow, sitting on the patio at the Woodfour Brewing Company is an excellent decision. If you’re looking for our recommendation, try the Morning Selfie Lager, a cute name for a delicious coffee-roasted brew. We could go on about their German and other European-inspired brews or their pub fare offerings which are surprisingly tasty. But you don’t need to take our word for it.

We hope to catch you and your dog out for a drink at one of these great Sonoma dog-friendly bars and breweries.
